Ansty residents demonstrate their support for a 30mph speed limit in their village.
As you may have heard, I and a like-minded group of Councillors have been promoting a motion at West Sussex County Council to change the policy of the County Council on speed limits. I’m delighted to be able to tell you this motion was passed at the full meeting of the County Council last Friday, 12th February. The motion commits the council to amend its speed limit policy so that 30mph should be the norm in villages and to remove the relationship between average speed and speed limits. You may be aware the latter has been the reason a 30mph speed limit in Ansty has previously been refused. The full text of the motion can be found on the WSCC website.
I believe this is a very significant step forward. The Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transport has indicated that he will publish a revised policy by the end of March and it is to be welcomed that he intends to act so promptly. Whilst we will have to wait to see the detail of his proposals, I am optimistic a 30mph limit in our village is closer than it has ever been previously.
In the meantime I would like to thank everyone who has lobbied and written letters of support for the ’30 In Ansty Now’ campaign. A 30mph limit in Ansty has been at the top of my agenda since I was elected as your County Councillor and it will remain so until the 30 signs go up.
